STOP FUNDING GENOCIDE
Break the Association Agreement between Israel and the European Union
We are witnessing the first livestreamed genocide in the history of mankind. Israel has been committing the worst war crimes on the Palestinian People for over a year, after 77 years of colonization. More than 60.000 people murdered in Gaza, entire neighborhoods flattened, hospitals bombed and millions of Palestinians are facing starvation. Despite this, the European Union continues business as usual. This is facilitated through the EU-Israel Association Agreement. This Agreement is the cornerstone of its relationship with Israel. It grants Israel privileged access to EU markets, academic cooperation and diplomatic partnerships. It guarantees free trade for Israeli products and services, like software and military equipment. But it also ensures Israel’s participation in research programs like Horizon Europe. While all universities in Gaza have been destroyed, more than €500 million in public EU funds continue to flow to Israeli institutions.
The continuation of this Agreement is part of the EU’s complicity to Israel’s system of apartheid, colonization and the ongoing genocide.
Sign our petition and demand the immediate end of the EU-Israel Association Agreement. The time of words is long gone. We need sanctions now. Stop funding genocide.

Why are we demanding the end of the EU-Israel Association Agreement ?
The EU-Israel Association Agreement came into force on June 1st 2000. After 25 years of close cooperation, it is time to end this Agreement and break the complicity of the EU to apartheid, colonization and genocide.
Even though Israel enjoys many privileges, this agreement is not unconditional. The preamble of the agreement states that human rights form the foundation of the agreement, and Article 2 emphasizes that human rights constitute an “essential element” of it. In other words, human rights violations are a legitimate basis for suspending the Association Agreement.
Since the agreement came into force, many have pointed to Article 2 as a safeguard in case Israel failed to meet its obligations. In 2002, a majority in the European Parliament even voted in favor of suspending the treaty, arguing that Israel was not complying with UN resolutions and was not playing a constructive role in the peace process. Yet nothing came of it.
And even now, as the genocide in Gaza intensifies and Israel uses famine as a weapon of war, our governments have done little more than timidly request a review of the agreement, while Israel flagrantly breaches international law.
But things are starting to shift. Faced with the horror in Gaza, and thanks to the growing pressure of the Palestine solidarity movement, more and more states are beginning to argue that the agreement must be reconsidered. But this is not enough. The agreement needs to be broken now. Sanctions must be imposed on Israel. After all, Europe is Israel’s largest trading partner. Without European support, Israel would face serious (financial) difficulties. In the past, boycotts, divestments, and sanctions also proved to be an effective tool in dismantling other apartheid regimes, such as in South Africa.
It is time that the EU stops using Israel as a stronghold for their own interests, letting Israel commit crime after crime without any consequence. It is time that the European Union puts Palestinian lives above geopolitical and economic interests. Without financial, political and military support from Western powers like the EU, Israel cannot continue its genocide against the Palestinians. Ending complicity is crucial to stop this injustice.
This is why, with Stop Funding Genocide, we are organizing a European-wide campaign to end this Association Agreement. We want to unite the Palestine solidarity movement across Europe to put an end to the impunity and to the complicity of our governments in the ongoing genocide. For this we want to build people power, organizing and mobilizing hundreds of thousands of people across Europe.
With this petition, we are calling on European states and the European Council of Foreign Affairs to finally impose sanctions on Israel, after more than a year of genocide and 77 years of colonization, and to break the EU-Israel Association Agreement. We call on the EU to stop funding genocide.
